Description

Pregnancy and Postpartum
Pelvic floor physical therapy can be highly beneficial for women during and after pregnancy, addressing issues arising from the stress of pregnancy and childbirth on the core and pelvic floor. These muscles, spanning from the pubic to the tailbone, are crucial for bladder and bowel health, sexual function, and pelvic stability. Dysfunction can manifest as urinary issues, bowel incontinence, diastasis recti, perineal pain, pain during intercourse, pubic pain, and pelvic organ prolapse.

Incontinence and Prolapse
Urinary incontinence, or loss of bladder control, is a common and inconvenient problem. Its severity can vary from occasional leaks during actions like coughing (stress incontinence) to sudden, intense urges that leave no time to reach a restroom (urge incontinence). In most cases, physical therapy can resolve symptoms and ease discomfort by strengthening or relaxing the muscles of the pelvic floor, depending on the exact condition.

Pelvic Pain
The pelvic floor, a multi-layered sling or hammock of muscles spanning the area underneath the pelvis, plays an important role in bladder and bowel health, sexual functioning, and general pelvic stability. When pelvic muscles are tight, it can lead to various pelvic pain, discomfort during/after sex, issues with sitting or using tampons, clothing irritation, urinary problems, and conditions like Vulvodynia and Endometriosis. Physical therapy provides a non-invasive approach to address these issues, using manual techniques to restore patients to their optimal function.
