Description
In 1914, the Solano County Free Library was established by the Solano County Board of Supervisors. Originally housed in the county courthouse in Fairfield, the library soon moved to the new Armijo High School. In 1931, a new library building was built at the corner of Union and Texas Streets to house the Fairfield library and the County Library Headquarters. The current 40,000 square foot library building was constructed in 1976, and renamed the Fairfield-Suisun Community Library. In 2002 the building underwent major renovation to open in November 2003 as the Fairfield Civic Center Library. The renovated building features a computer center, study rooms, the Friends of the Library Bookstore, a wireless network, and 60 public computer stations. The library continues to share the building with the administrative offices, technical services and automation department of Solano County Library.
